Jon Stewart on Fresh Air

Did anyone hear Jon Stewart on Fresh Air today? James really wants me to be on the show, but I'll have to say, I don't think I stand a chance until I get a third BA in American Politics. I liked what he had to say about being funny. He talked about the contrast between being obnoxious and being witty. And what an enormous difference it is to be funny amongst friends as opposed to doing a stand up routine. To create a humorous atmosphere is a lot harder than it is to deflect a situation already in motion and turn it into a few good laughs. I need to get that transcript. I liked it. And I have a lot to learn. Even if I have no intentions of doing stand up.

    I love The Daily Show for it's honest take on current events including the ongoing "Indecision 2004" about the campaign. I think what Jon Stewart didn't say on Fresh Air is that to do what he does well, one has to have a basic irreverent frame of mind which helps him create a true "No Spin Zone" (no apologies to Bill O'Liely).

    I think Jon Stewart is hilarious and offers one of the few truly accurate perspectives of, not only current events, but the current state of news in the united states. If you really are interested in unbiased news, any NPR station will give it to you the best they can. Almost everything else is utter trash. About the interview, if you go to KERA.org, you can find the Fresh Air webpage. Its also found here, https://freshair.npr.org/. Its great because they archive all of their shows in streaming audio and they are all searchable so you don't have to scan for 5 minutes to find the interview. I listen to a great number of these interviews at work and I will say that his interview is one of the best I have heard in a while. Hope this helps.

    Fuck Jon Stewart for supporting a lying, anti-American cock-sucker like john kerry. Ignorant, socialist assholes like Stewart, not to mention kerry, weaken this Great Country. They should be driven into the sea like the filthy liberal lemmings that they are.

    As posted elsewhere on the web: Last Spring, the Daily Show received the Television Critics Association's award for outstanding news and public affairs series, which, needless to say, caused much grumbling amongst the mainstream news media in the US. As a Canadian (living in the land of This Hour Has 22 Minutes), I was shocked at the implication that a comedy news show was providing better coverage than CNN. Then I started watching CNN. Stewart's comments on Crossfire really get to the heart of what's wrong with US news media. It's amazing that a country which wears freedom of the press like a badge of honour has developed a media that seems to be incapable of reporting anything without bias. While I laughed my ass off at this episode of Crossfire, it wasn't because Stewart was funny. It was because the two hosts were incapable of understanding what Stewart said. The way they kept trying to turn things back on the Daily Show was completely assinine; as Stewart kept pointing out, he hosts a comedy program, not a news show. Regardless of how any of you plan on voting, I hope you do watch the Daily show at least once. Not because Stewart supports Kerry, but because he is currently the closest thing the US has to an unbiased commentator.
